Learn about Recycling
| One single container is placed on a construction site and all of the materials on the site are co-mingled into one container. One container takes up less room on the site and is cleaner and it is ultimately safer for the workers. | |
| The container is brought to the Sun Recycling facility and is dumped on the “tipping floor”. | |
| If the container is loaded with wood or yard waste it is dumped on a separate floor and processed into wood chips and mulch. | |
| Recycled wood is used as fuel in co-generation plants for energy or as ground cover. | |
| If a container is strictly concrete it is dumped on a separate floor and crushed into various sizes of crushed aggregate to be used for a variety of projects that would normally use virgin rock. | |
| Recycled aggregate (concrete) is used for road base, the base in horse riding arenas, base for pavers and a variety of other applications. | |
| The co-mingled materials that were dumped on the tipping floor are loaded onto a conveyer. The process starts with a mechanical separation of items that are 10 inches or larger. They move on a conveyer belt to the top of a line where individuals are separating the large pieces manually. | |
| The picking line is on the top of a series of bunkers. The separated materials are dropped through shoots from the line into the bunkers below the platform. | |
| The materials that are 10 inches and smaller run through screens and trammels that separate them by product. | |
| Metals and smaller stones separate out of the mix on a different line. The metals are sold to be reused in a variety of products. | |
| Even the dirt becomes a final product. It is referred to as Number Two fill or Green Fill and is an appropriate replacement for virgin soil in many applications. It is used to create elevations for noise abatement, elevations on golf courses and in a variety of other miscellaneous areas that need fill. |
